PARKS OF ABRUZZO
MAJELLA AND GRAN SASSO
Guided excursions can be organised to discover the wonderful Parks of Abruzzo, such as Majella and Gran Sasso.
The Majella National Park is a unique place in Italy to discover the nature and biodiversity of the Peninsula: here in the wild still survive Marsican bears, wolves, and you can admire chamois, deer and roe deer.
The Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park can be explored by numerous trails on foot, by bike and on horseback, to discover the incredible natural and cultural treasures of one of the largest protected areas in Europe. Here too you can spot deer, wolves and the very rare golden eagles.
THE TRABOCCHI COAST
TRADITION
The Trabocchi Coast corresponds to the stretch of Adriatic coastline in the province of Chieti so called because of the numerous trabocchi, picturesque wooden fishing machines on stilts, scattered along the coast.
It is a stretch of coastline famous throughout Italy for its natural beauty and its diversity: each of the villages along the Coast maintains its own characteristics and traditions.
Today most of these trabocchi have become authentic restaurants where you can arrange dinners with tasting menus based on the maritime tradition of Abruzzo. You can discover and taste typical dishes such as scapece (fried marinaded fish), brodetto di pesce (a fish stew) and frittura di paranza (fried seafood).
PESCARA AND CHIETI
PESCARA
There are two main cities to visit, just a few kilometres away from the hotel: Pescara and Chieti.
The city of Pescara is located at the mouth of the river with the same name, it is the capital of the Abruzzo province and saw the birth of Gabriele D’Annunzio. A modern city, now characterized as a tourist destination, it is a well-equipped seaside resort and an important commercial and industrial centre.
What to do in Pescara: whether you want to enjoy an aperitif, an evening of music, a dinner in one of the many restaurants in the bustling centre, in Pescara you will find everything you’re looking for (distance from Villa Maria Hotel & SPA to Pescara centre: 5 km).

CHIETI
In a panoramic position overlooking the valley below, stands Chieti, a city that boasts ancient origins. It is a cultural city, but also lively and busy: narrow streets, picturesque views, archaeological evidence of a glorious past are combined with modernity, progress, emancipation.
What to do in Chieti: the ideal destination to immerse yourself in an atmosphere evocative of a glorious past, in the historic centre of Chieti your gaze will be constantly captured by the remains of numerous ancient buildings: Tempi Romani, Terme Romane, Museo Archeologico nazionale “La Civitella”, Villa Frigerj Museum, where the Capestrano warrior is on display together with much more (distance from Villa Maria Hotel & SPA to Chieti centre: 15 km).
WINE AND FOOD
ABRUZZO WINE
The wine of Abruzzo is famous in Italy and in the world for the production of the very prestigious Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Other typical wines of the region are Trebbiano and Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo.
Marramiero, Masciarelli, Pasetti, Valentini, Zaccagnini are just some of the names of the most renowned wineries of Abruzzo.
We can arrange guided visits and tastings for you during the whole year, or even more extensive tours of three days dedicated to visiting vineyards and tasting Abruzzo’s wines, so that you can get to know different local businesses and attend different seasonal activities, such as the olive harvest and grape harvest.
